  1. An alternate name for photo interpretation, gathering military or commercial intelligence from surveillance photos.

  2. A technical means to study a photographic negative to determine if it is faked. Sometimes used to evaluate alleged UFO pictures. One method is to study the relative sharpness of images to determine if a UFO image is actually a small model closer to the camera than the photographer claims. Another method is to enhance contrast in the image digitally to try to detect props such as strings holding up a UFO model.

  3. The art of making plausible inferences from a photograph. Also known as photo analysis and reading a photograph.
