A computer in the standard form, usually in the "terminal" style, with a screen, a keyboard, a mouse, etc. Usually, these machines are meant for human interaction and therefor are usually easy to use and 'pretty to look at' Very much unlike a server.

Its only in the last two or three years that Microsoft and some of their Wintel hardwarevendors (referred to internally by M$ as "our bitches") started calling PCs "workstations"

Before that it was almost universally understood that a workstation

• Ran some flavour of Unix, almost always vendor specific (e.g., Suns SUNOS, IBMs AIX, Silicon Graphics IRIX)



• Had a pointing device more commonly called a mouse



• Featured a very high resolution monitor

BUT! Only a PC running - what else? LINUX!
