The TIE Fighter (
TIE/In) , or
Twin Ion Engine Fighter is the standard fighter of
The Imperial Fleet. Since it lacks a shield
and a
hyperdrive, it is usually deployed from
Interdictors or
Star Destroyers. Due to its somewhat fragile, yet
maneuverable and agile nature, it is common to see wings consisting of 72 fighters attack the same target in the form
of wings, 12 in each. They are general almost-all-purpose craft designed to escort
TIE Bombers and gunboats and
intercept enemy fighters at an impressive ratio, often ten times more fighters than the enemy. The design is made up of
a spheric cockpit and canopy and two hexagonal solar panels that power the engines. The canopy structure is
octogonal.
Versions of the
TIE Fighter are the
TIE/ln (
TIE Front Line Fighter),
TIE/rc (
TIE Reconaissance Fighter),
TIE/rc mkII (TIE "
Vanguard" Reconnaissance Fighter),
TIE/fc (TIE Fire Control Fighter) and the Original Fighter as produced by
Sienar Fleet Systems that served as basis for all these fighters. It's got a titanium hull with
quadranium steel armored
solar panels.

Its weapons are simple, yet fearsome. It has got two laser cannons that can operate in single or dual fire. However,
the TIE fighters are no match for the
Rebel Alliance T-65 X-Wing and thus numerous variations of the
TIE Fighter
are produced such as
TIE Interceptor,
TIE Advanced and the elusive
TIE Defender.
