Cihuacoatl, the
Aztec goddess whose roar signalled
war, was also an earth and mother-goddess,
patroness of birth and of women who died in
childbirth. She is the mother of
Mixcoatl. She assisted
Quetzalcoatl in creating the first
human beings of this time by using the ground up bones of the peoples of a previous era mixed with the
blood of the old gods who committed
suicide so that this new time period could begin.
Cihuacoatl, which means snake woman, and is usually portrayed holding a child in her arms.
