Unkind
nickname for a large
sculpture placed at the intersection of
University Avenue and
Dundas Street in
Toronto,
Ontario. The
sculpture is a
memorial to
Canadian air crew, and lists
RCAF members who have been granted the
Victoria Cross.
It is referred to as ``Gumby goes to Heaven'' because it is formed of a black marble base, upon which is set a tall vaguely human figure whose outreached hands and upturned head face a bird floating above the hands. All is in greenish bronze by now. ``Gumby goes to Heaven'' is probably the polite alternative to ``Gumby receives the Holy Spirit''.
Odd note is that the statue was placed through the generosity of the Jackman family.
