Super Bowl V|Super Bowl VII
January 16, 1972
The Cowboys avenged their loss in the previous Super Bowl by roundly trouncing the Dolphins, who made their Super Bowl debut in Super Bowl VI.
Behind the leadership of MVP QB Roger Staubach, the Dallas offense took control of both the ground and the air, amassing 352 total yards in the game. Meanwhile, the defensive team did their job, limiting the Miami offense to just 185 total yards while allowing no touchdowns to be scored, a Super Bowl first.
A new attendance record was set, with 81,023 people present. Tom Landry went home a winner this time, while Miami coach Don Shula became the first coach to lose two Super Bowls (he coached the Colts in their loss at Super Bowl III).
