A well-researched book by San Jose Mercury News reporter Gary Webb which investigates the connections between the CIA, the DEA, and the Nicaraguan Contras during the 1980s. The conclusions are pretty damning: Webb reports that the CIA knew that the contras were smuggling cocaine into the US to fund their operations, and either turned a blind eye, or actually assisted them in their operations. The CIA issued a rebuttal to Webb's book, but it was mostly an attack on a couple of sources used very sparingly by the reporter; the man mentioned the most often in the rebuttal doesn't even get a listing in Dark Alliance's index.
