foo is the first of the most common sequence of metasyntactic variables, as popularlized by MIT hackers. It is also the one most commonly used in a stand-alone context, such as the exclamation "Well, foo!" (often emitted when something is fubar). Not to be confused with Mr. T's "I pity da foo'", which is completely different.
