Limnology is a field of science which integrates the principles of physics, chemistry and biology in the study of freshwater systems. Marine systems are studied in a sister, parallel field called marine biology.
This may seem like further Balkanization, it's important that we use words precisely, or the misuse of language will lead to the inability to communicate.
