Olympiaturm, or
Munich Olympic Tower, is a 290m high telecommunications tower built in
olympiapark on the north side of
Munich. The tower was completed in 1968 for the
1972 Olympic Games. It has a
revolving restaurant and a
viewing platform.
As with other great towers, Olympiaturm attracts large numbers of
annoying tourists with
snotty-nosed kids. You can't get a moments peace on the 190 m viewing platform, for all the pushing and shoving. I expect the restaurant is better, and menu is not unreasonable, at between 40 - 90
DM per person.
The view from Olympiaturm is quite spectacular, on a clear day you can see
the Alps. Unfortunately, clear days are not particularly common in Munich, since the warmer it gets, the worse the
pollution becomes.
