A now-common drug used to treat Lupus is
hydroxychloroquine, or branded as
Planquinil. It is an early
anti-malarial drug that was discovered to have healing effects for
rheumatic and arthritic symptoms. It most often needs to be taken
twice a day, and is mainly
prescribed to
systemic Lupus patients.
Also, several
steroids are used to treat Lupus patients, including
Prednisone, until the
hydroxychloroquine takes effect on the
human body, which can take anywhere from fifteen to
twenty weeks.
