A
northern English slang term for a
dividend card, as issued by the Co-op, a chain of food
stores (short for Co-operative). Your divvy would get you money off the sort of essential goods sold by the
Co-op, like
bread and
milk.
Also a term of abuse among
school-children of the north, usually prefixed by "uuuuuuuhhhh"
noises and
cruel imitations of the
mentally handicapped.
Eg: "Uuuuuuuuhhh,
Tom dropped his
lunch, divvy!"
