to cloze, transitive verb: to regularly remove certain words from a text, replacing them with blanks and according to a pattern (for example, every five words).
A clozed text is often used as a language understanding test or exercise. One typical example would be:
original text: My cat has just had three kittens; one I gave to my best friend, and two I kept. My father really likes cats, but my mother was not so happy about it.
clozed text: My cat has just ... three kittens; one I ... to my best friend, ... two I kept. My ... really likes cats, but ... mother was not so ... about it.
