Commonly confused with power electronics, powernoise is a form of rhythmic industrial music that combines ultra-distorted beats, gabber-like techno, cold ambience and mechanical structures to create a unique hybrid that shares elements both with more recent electronic dance music and old school industrial. Originally more of a European phenomena, powernoise now has a solid following on both sides of the pond. The most prominent powernoise label is Ant-Zen which includes the likes of Converter, Imminent Starvation, Synapscape which are all pleasingly abrasive examples of the genre.
