• grants a charter to Hudson's Bay Company, giving them the exclusive right to fur trapping and mining in Rupert's Land, the area around Hudson Bay, a large chunk of present-day Canada.
• signs the secret Treaty of Dover with Louis XIV of France. A sort of letter of intent for Charles to Convert to Catholicism, Louis agrees to provide him with troops to quell the inevitable unrest when he actually does the deed.  Charles agrees to support Louis' planned war against The Netherlands.
• concludes a treaty with Spain, which grants England Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, and sets Charleston as the border between their North Amierican claims.  Meanwhile, Thomas Modyford, governor of Jamiaca, commisions Henry Morgan to raid Spanish settlements in the Carribean.
• William Penn the Younger is acquitted of charges of sedition (defending Quakerism) and freed from the Tower of London.  Charles doesn't like this and fines the jury. When one of the jurors, Edward Bushell, refuses to pay the fine, he is imprisoned, but the Lord Chief Justice rules that juries cannot be punished for their verdicts.
• The first English settlers arrive in the new colony of Carolina, and Charleston is founded as the colony's first settlement. England and Spain
• Thomas Blood kidnaps James Butler, Duke of Ormonde, but is foiled in his attempt to hang him.
• St. John's, Antigua is destroyed by a hurricane.
• Propertyless Cossacks led by Stenka Razin give up raiding eastern Russia and start a revolt agaist Tsar Alexei., which ends when propertied Cossacks capture Razin.
• Maratha general Shivaji Bhosle establishes his primary fortress at Raigad.  His armies capture the Sinhagad fortress near Pune
