"No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I am concerned, they are lower than vermin." - Aneurin Bevan.
Making myself a human being
I'll admit it from the off - I'm not the most noderish noder. I love having a place to put my words, and a guaranteed audience, but I'm not into that "e2 is a community" deal. I treat this place as a publishing forum for work that I'm rather proud of, so I don't try too hard to fit the style house style of e2 writing. You're unlikely to see me at nodermeets, and i'm more likely to bite than say thanks if you send me typo corrections. This might sound like an obnoxious bastard, but the fact is I do care. I care about the work.. The work is what it's all about. So read and enjoy! If you want to know more of me, then think on this: I'm bloody English, and therefore pessimistic, so "goddamit, the sky is falling in! Would you like some milk in your tea?"...
I've taken a few shots at fiction disguised as fact - Fictuals.. I won't admit to it on the node itself, it would spoil the fun, but I will here because no fuckers seem to read them. Go read Jacob Whetstone and Adam Spencer, they took me absolutely ages to write and research, and I think they are they best things I've done (although Farnsworth Fusor kicks ass too).
izubachi says re Jacob Whetstone: This is brilliant. Straight-out, undiluted, no-holds-barred brilliant. If you hadn't told me it was a fictional, I'd be Googling and Wikiing Mr. Whetstone furiously right now, trying to find out more about a man so intimately and convincingly involved in the lives of all my favorite literary figures. Honestly, there's nothing I could possibly contribute to improve this.
Bitriot says re Jacob Whetstone: God damn, man. Nice going.
The main form I play with is the review article, which I carefully subvert to use for social commentary. The movies I node are not ones history will remember or people will study in film school, but they tend to have loads to say about the politics of the time - Reign of Fire, Red Dawn, Capricorn One. I've also tried the same trick with computer games (Chaos) and music (Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, Money Jungle). Give them a read, they're worth it.
Attention Whore(dream) by Facelift on Mars
I experienced the same loathesome behavior when I tried to review the movie, I (love) Huckabees. As much as I tried to "like" it, my inability to make a "heart" sign with my keyboard led to an utter disdain for both Dustin Hoffman and a relatively innocent TOM CRUISE, (BTW, Happy B-Day Barnabus Collins...) See what I mean? Who can keep their eyes on the ball when the eyes are really, "aye, aye, Everything.com"? See you in the armpit lymph nodes... |
